What is a Shower Bomb (a.k.a. shower steamer) and How Is It Different than a bath bomb?
Shower bombs are a fantastic option for anyone who loves showers but wants the benefits of a bath bomb.
Unlike bath bombs that dissolve in water, shower bombs are made to work with the heat and steam from a shower, releasing essential oils and soothing scents that turn an ordinary shower into an aromatherapy experience.
Ingredients and Supplies You’ll Need To Make Gingerbread Shower Bombs
To make these gingerbread shower bombs, you’ll need the following:
Gingerbread shaped silicone soap mold – I use the same mold in my Gingerbread soaps which make super cute gifts!
Epsom Salt – you’ll want to be sure you have unscented, plain Epsom salt like this one
Baking Soda – you probably already have this in your kitchen. If not, you can find it in the baking aisle.
Essential Oils: I made my own gingerbread scent by combining these essential oils together:
- 8 drops ginger essential oil
- 6 drops nutmeg essential oil
- 4 drops clove essential oil
- 4 drops vanilla essential oil
- 2 drops bergamot essential oil
- 2 drops cinnamon essential oil
- 2 drops orange essential oil
Mica Powder for color – I used the coffee color from this set. You can use these mica powders in many other DIY projects including:
Step by Step How To Make Gingerbread Shower Bombs
In a small bowl, whisk together the baking soda, Epsom salts, and mica powder, until well blended.
Next, mix the drops of essential oil together and pour into the dry ingredients. You don’t need to worry about mixing the ingredients yet, you’ll do this in the next step.
Then, slowly drizzle in the water while whisking until you get the consistency of wet sand. You may not use all of the water.
Then, press the mixture into the molds and level off the tops with your finger or a knife.
Let the molds set for 12 hours before unmolding.
To use your bath bomb, throw one or two on the floor of the shower and let it work it’s magic in the warm steam while you bathe.
