Ingredients and Supplies Youโll Need to Make Your Sleep Salve
Making this sleep salve is simple. You only need a few natural ingredients and some basic supplies:
- ยผ cup lavender flowers
- ยผ cup chamomile flowers
- 1 cup carrier oil (like avocado, jojoba, or sweet almond oil)
- ยผ cup infused oil (made from the lavender and chamomile flowers)
- 1 tablespoon beeswax
- ยผ cup coconut oil
- 10 drops cedarwood essential oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- Amber container or 2oz tins
Letโs Talk About the Ingredients!
Carrier Oil
Youโll need a carrier oil to infuse the lavender and chamomile flowers. I used jojoba oil because itโs what I had on hand, and it works great. If you donโt have jojoba oil, you can use avocado, argan, or sweet almond oil instead.
Lavender and Chamomile Flowers
You can use dried lavender and chamomile flowers to make the infused oil. If you grow them at home, even better! If not, you can easily find dried herbs online or at a local store
Beeswax and Coconut Oil
Beeswax gives the salve its smooth, balm-like texture. Coconut oil adds a smooth, creamy feel. It makes the salve glide on easily.
Essential Oils
I used Roman Chamomile and Lavender essential oils because theyโre my favorites for relaxation. You can mix it up if youโd like. Vetiver or Cedarwood would also work well.

Thatโs all! Simple ingredients you can easily find and customize to make your own sleep salve. Once you gather everything, itโs time to start creating!
Step-by-Step Directions for How to Make Your Sleep Salve
How to Make an Herb-Infused Oil (Optional)
The first step in making your sleep salve is to create an herb-infused oil using lavender and chamomile flowers.
If youโd rather skip this step, you can use plain carrier oil instead. However, infusing your oil adds extra soothing properties, which make this salve so special.
To make the infused oil, youโll need a small jar that holds at least 1 cup of oil. I used a mason jar for mine.
- Fill the jar halfway with dried lavender and chamomile flowers.
- Pour your carrier oil (I used Jojoba Oil) over the herbs until the jar is full.
Once the infusion is complete, strain out the flowers and save the oil. This will be the base for your sleep salve.
The Making of the Sleep Salve
Once youโve got your infused oil (or plain carrier oil), itโs time to make your sleep salve.
Hereโs what youโll need:
- Infused oil (or plain carrier oil)
- Coconut oil
- Beeswax
- Essential oils (optional)
Follow these steps:
Melt the Ingredients
Combine the infused oil (or carrier oil), coconut oil, and beeswax in a double boiler or a microwave-safe container. Heat gently until everything melts together. If youโre using the microwave, melt the mixture in 30-second intervals, stirring each time to avoid overheating.
Add Essential Oils
Once the mixture is melted and slightly cooled, add your essential oils. I used cedarwood and lavender, but you can customize this to your liking. Start with a few drops, then adjust based on your preference.
Pour and Set
Pour the mixture into your chosen containersโamber jars or 2 oz. tins work great. Let it sit at room temperature until it hardens..
Thatโs it! Since thereโs no water in this recipe, you donโt need a preservative. Your sleep salve is ready to use and will last for months.
This is such a simple yet rewarding process. It feels great to make something so comforting with your own hands!

love it!
Love this! I made it for the whole family and we’ve been using it every night including the kids. I used less oil to be safe.
I have a horrible time falling asleep. Desperate to try anything. This really helps!
