Benefits of Using Bath Salts
Bath Salts made with Epsom salts offer many benefits and are a great way to give yourself a little self care at the end of the day and unwind and relax before bed.
Epsom salts are a type of mineral compound composed of magnesium and sulfate. They can be used for various purposes such as relaxation, exfoliation, and addressing certain health conditions.
Children also benefit from using bath salts. The younger the age, the less bath salts you’ll need to use.
A few of the benefits of Epsom salt baths include:
- Epsom salts help soothe muscle aches and pains
- They can reduce inflammation and swelling
- Epsom salts may help detoxify the body
- They can improve skin health and appearance
- Epsom salts can promote relaxation and reduce stress
Ingredients and Supplies Needed to make Rainbow Bath Salts
Here’s what you’ll need to make these unicorn bath salts:
- carrier oil such as jojoba oil, argan oil, or fractionated coconut oil
- baking soda
- Epsom salt – be sure to use unscented. This is my favorite Epsom Salt.
- 15-25 drops essential oils – use your favorite scent or choose from the suggestions below
- Mica powder – several different colors to get the rainbow effect. These are the mica powders I used.
- Clear Jar – this is the jar I used with a cork lid. Any tall jar works – so long as you can see the layers in the jar.
Essential Oils for Your Bath Salts
Adding essential oils to your bath salts are a great way to get the benefits of an aromatherapy bath.
Aromatherapy baths can improve mood, reduce stress, and promote relaxation.
There’s no right or wrong essential oil to use. Simply use your favorite scent, or try one of these essential oil combination ideas below for inspiration.
Be sure to use a pure 100% essential oil and not a fragrance oil as this is typically synthetic and can contain unknown ingredients. Since this is going on your skin, you want to be sure you know you are using something pure and safe.
Some popular choices / combinations include:
- Lavender / Vanilla
- Peppermint / Orange
- Eucalyptus / Lavender
- Chamomile / Lavender
- Grapefruit / Bergamot
- Geranium / Orange
- Lemon
- Rose
- Jasmine
How to make Rainbow Bath Salts
First, Mix together the Epsom salt and baking soda in a glass bowl.
Next, in a separate glass bowl mix together your carrier oil and essential oils.
Add the essential oil / carrier oil mixture to the dry Epsom salt / baking soda mixture and stir until well combined.
Next, you’ll separate the mixture into 4 separate bowls where you’ll add a different color Micah powder to each bowl. You can use more or less bowls depending on the number of colors you want.
Sprinkle your Micah powder into the mixture and stir well. Continue adding Micah powder until you get the color you want.
Once all your colored salts are ready, pour each color into your clear glass jar one at a time. Layer each color until all of the colors have been added and your jar is filled.
When your jar is filled, add your lid and you’re done!
How to use your bath salts
To use your bath salts, add 1 – 2 cups to warm bathwater and swirl around until the mixture is dissolved. Use more or less depending on preference and age. Younger kiddos won’t need as much as an adult.
