Benefits of Magnesium
Magnesium is essential for various bodily functions, including nerve function, muscle contraction, and bone health. Magnesium is also one of the most common deficiencies we have.
Using a magnesium lotion can help replenish magnesium levels in the body, as the mineral can be absorbed through the skin. Magnesium is crucial for maintaining proper bodily functions such as nerve communication, muscle movement, and bone strength.
A magnesium lotion can be beneficial as it allows for the absorption of magnesium through the skin, replenishing the body’s magnesium levels. This can help alleviate muscle cramps, promote relaxation, and potentially improve sleep quality.

Ingredients and Supplies you’ll need to make Magnesium Lotion
You’ll need the following to make your lotion:
Magnesium Flakes – These are the magnesium flakes I used for this lotion
Coconut Oil – you’ll want to get cold press, extra-virgin, unrefined coconut oil. This is the one I use
Raw, Unrefined Shea Butter (not lotion) – you’ll need some raw shea butter. Be sure not to get shea lotion, which has other ingredients in it. This is the raw shea butter I use.

Beeswax – I like to use beeswax pellets instead of beeswax sticks because it’s easier to measure. These are the beeswax pellets I use. If you prefer sticks, I have used THESE in the past.
Essential Oils – I used Lavender and Eucalyptus because both of those oils have amazing benefits for sore muscles. You could use any essential oil you would like.

Easy Step by Step directions to make Magnesium Lotion
The first step is to boil your water. Once it is boiling, add the magnesium flakes and stir until completely dissolved.
Next, add your coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax to either a double boiler or a microwave safe glass.
- If using a double boiler, heat them until melted.
- If using a microwave, heat in a microwave safe glass bowl for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each time until fully melted.
Once melted, pour the melted mixture and the magnesium together into a bowl or stand mixer and beat on high for about 5 minutes.
Allow the mixture to rest for 10 minutes, then beat again for 1 more minute.
The last step is to add your essential oils and beat just until combined.
Store in an airtight container such as a glass mason jar.
Tip: Stick your lotion in the fridge to cool or in a bowl of shallow ice water. This will help it to cool quickly so you don’t end up with “grainy” lotion which happens when it cools slowly.
To use your lotion, rub on skin as needed just as you would use any other lotion.
