Why Coffee Bath Salts Are Perfect for Self-Care
This Coffee Bath Salts recipe is the perfect addition to your self-care routine. It uses simple, natural ingredients to provide incredible benefits for your skin and overall well-being. Here’s why you’ll love it:
Gently Exfoliates for Smooth, Glowing Skin
The coffee grounds in this recipe work as a natural exfoliant that’s both effective and gentle on the skin. By removing dead skin cells, coffee helps reveal a fresh, smooth, and radiant layer of skin.
This exfoliation not only enhances your skin’s texture but also clears the way for moisturizers to deeply penetrate and hydrate, making your skincare routine more effective. Regular exfoliation with coffee can also brighten dull skin and reduce the appearance of uneven texture, leaving you with a healthy glow.
Soothes Achy Muscles
Epsom salt is a renowned remedy for tired, sore muscles. Its magnesium content helps relax muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and improve overall circulation. A soak with these bath salts is perfect for easing soreness after an intense workout or a long, stressful day. By reducing muscle fatigue and promoting relaxation, it’s a great way to unwind and rejuvenate your body.
Detoxifies and Refreshes
The combination of coffee and Epsom salt offers powerful detoxifying benefits. Together, they work to draw out impurities and toxins from your skin, leaving it clean and revitalized. This detox process not only refreshes your body but also enhances your skin’s health and clarity over time.
The refreshing properties of this bath soak make it ideal for starting your day feeling rejuvenated or ending it on a relaxing note.
Hydrates and Softens Skin
The milk powder in this recipe is a game-changer for hydration. Packed with lactic acid – an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that exfoliates and hydrates the skin. It gently exfoliates while delivering deep nourishment to your skin. The result is a silky, smooth, and moisturized feel that lasts long after your bath. Milk powder also helps calm dry or irritated skin, making it an excellent addition for those with sensitive or rough patches.
Customizable and Eco-Friendly
One of the best parts of this DIY Coffee Bath Salts recipe is its versatility. You can customize the aroma by adding essential oils like lavender for relaxation, eucalyptus for refreshment, or peppermint for invigoration. This flexibility allows you to create a bath experience tailored to your preferences.
Plus, by making your own bath salts, you reduce plastic waste and avoid harmful chemicals often found in store-bought products. It’s a win for both your well-being and the planet.
Reduces Stress and Boosts Mood
The rich, inviting aroma of coffee in this recipe turns your bath into a luxurious spa experience. Combined with essential oils, it creates a calming environment that helps melt away stress and uplift your mood. This sensory experience promotes relaxation and mental clarity, making it the perfect remedy for a hectic day.
Promotes Healthy Skin Circulation
Massaging the salts onto your skin or simply soaking in the bath helps stimulate blood flow. This increased circulation delivers oxygen and essential nutrients to your skin, enhancing its overall health and vibrancy. Improved blood flow can also reduce puffiness, improve skin tone, and leave you with a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.
This Coffee Bath Salts recipe is easy to make and full of benefits. It relaxes your body, soothes your skin, and refreshes your mind. It’s the perfect treat for self-care.

Let’s Explore the Benefits of the Ingredients!
Baking Soda
I love using baking soda in this recipe because it’s so versatile. It helps soften the bathwater and balances the pH of your skin. It also makes the mixture blend smoothly with the other powders, creating a consistent texture.
Epsom Salt
Epsom salt is one of my favorite ingredients for bath soaks. It dissolves easily in warm water and helps relax tired muscles. It’s also great for detoxing the skin, which leaves you feeling fresh and rejuvenated. Adding Epsom salt gives the bath salts their therapeutic edge, making it perfect for unwinding after a long day.
Be sure to use unscented Epsom salt – this is my favorite brand that I buy frequently I use it for so many things – my favorite is my detox foot bath soak.
Milk Powder
Milk powder adds a creamy, nourishing element to this recipe. I used Goat’s milk powder because it makes the bath feel so luxurious and hydrating and is really nourishing for the skin. It also blends beautifully with the other ingredients, giving the salts a smooth and silky texture.
- Experience the sweet taste of fresh goat’s milk in a convenient powder.
Ground Coffee
I chose ground coffee for its incredible skin benefits. It’s a gentle exfoliant that removes dead skin cells, leaving your skin soft and smooth. Coffee also has a beautiful natural aroma that turns the bath into a spa-like experience. Plus, it layers well with the other powders for a visually appealing look in the jar.
Essential Oils (Optional)
Essential oils are a wonderful way to customize your coffee scrub.
Grapefruit is a great choice if you want to use this as a cellulite scrub! The grapefruit oil is known for helping to reduce the appearance of bumps.
Other great choices include:
- Coffee essential oil
- Vanilla
- Cedarwood
- Peppermint
- Spearmint
- Grapefruit
- Lavender
- Juniper Berry
- Clove
- Frankincense
- Orange
The essential oils mix perfectly into the other ingredients, ensuring every scoop smells just right. This step is completely optional, but it adds such a nice touch.
All of the ingredients work together beautifully to create a soothing and effective bath soak. They each bring their own unique benefits to the recipe while ensuring the final product is easy to make and store. Once you have everything gathered, you’re ready to create a relaxing, skin-loving treat!
Step-by-Step Directions to Make Your Coffee Bath Salts
Making your own Coffee Bath Salts is quick, fun, and rewarding. Follow these simple steps to create a luxurious bath soak that will pamper your skin and relax your body.
Before starting, gather all your ingredients and supplies. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup Epsom salt
- 1/2 cup milk powder
- 4 tablespoons ground coffee
- 15-25 drops essential oils (optional)
- A mixing bowl and spoon
- A cork lid jar for storage
Once everything is ready, you’re all set to create your Coffee Bath Salts!
Step 1: Prepare the Epsom Salt
If you’re using essential oils, start by adding 15-25 drops to the Epsom salt. Stir well to ensure the oils are evenly mixed. This step infuses the salt with a relaxing or energizing aroma, depending on your chosen oils.
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, combine the baking soda and goat milk powder. Stir them together until the mixture looks smooth and even. These powders will add softness and creaminess to your bath experience.
Step 3: Layer or Mix the Ingredients
Now, it’s time to assemble the salts. You have two options:
- Layering: Add the ingredients to your jar in layers for a beautiful, visually appealing look. For example, start with milk powder, then coffee, followed by Epsom salt, and repeat.
- Mixing: If you prefer, mix all the ingredients together in a bowl before pouring them into the jar. This option gives a uniform look and ensures everything is evenly distributed.
To create the layers, I started with a layer of milk powder, than added a layer of coffee.
Next, I added a layer of Epsom salts.
Then another layer of coffee.
And finished with a layer of milk.
Step 4: Store Your Bath Salts
Once your jar is full, seal it with the cork lid. Store it in a cool, dry place until you’re ready to use it. The jar also makes a beautiful display piece or a thoughtful gift.
How to Use Your Coffee Bath Salts
- Add 2-3 tablespoons of the bath salts to warm running water.
- Stir the water gently to dissolve the salts completely.
- Soak for 20-30 minutes, letting the soothing ingredients work their magic on your skin and muscles.
This simple recipe makes around 10-12 ounces of bath salts, perfect for treating yourself or sharing with loved ones. Enjoy the relaxing and skin-nourishing benefits with every soak!
