What you’ll need to make Sea Moss Soap
You’ll need the following to make this sea moss soap:
- 1 lb glycerin melt and pour soap base. This is the one I used
- 1 chunk of sea moss. I used this one
- Silicone Soap Mold – I used this one for this recipe, however any shape will work. Use what you have if you already have one.
- Gold Mica Powder (optional) – if you’d like to give your soaps a pretty color. This is what I used. Mica Powder is totally optional. Leave it out if you prefer.
- Essential Oil (optional) – add a few drops of any essential oil. Frankincense would be fabulous in this soap.
Note: If you do add essential oils, be sure NOT to use fragrance oil as this is typically synthetic and contains unknown ingredients that can potentially be harmful and toxic to your skin. You want to use only a high quality, pure essential oil.
Instructions for How to Make Sea Moss Soap
First, follow the directions to make Sea Moss Gel.
It’s simple and easy, but does take some time. Simply add a chunk of sea moss gel to a bowl of filtered water and let it sit for 48 hours until it has expanded and is soft.
Once it is soft, drain it and add it to a blender with more filtered water. Blend it really well until it is smooth.
Now you have your sea moss gel and are ready to make your soap!
Steps to make the soap
Cut up your melt and pour soap base into small squares. It should look something like this:
Add the squares of soap base to a glass microwave safe bowl or measuring cup.
Microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between until it is fully melted.
Let the soap base cool just a bit, then add in 2 – 3 TBSP of your sea moss gel and mix thoroughly.
If you want to add in some mica powder for color, add about a teaspoon at a time and mix well until you get the color you like.
Pour your mixture into your soap mold and let it sit until it is hardened. This could be anywhere from a few hours to overnight.
Once your soap has hardened, pop them out of the trays.
Your finished sea moss soaps will look something like this:

Sea moss soap can be used like any other regular soap. Wet your hands or body, lather the soap in your hands or directly on your body, then massage the lather onto your skin. Rinse thoroughly with water.
