Why you’ll love USING melt and pour soap base
Ingredients and Supplies
Before you get started, you’ll want to gather all of your equipment and ingredients.

Here’s what you’ll need for this DIY Project:
- Soap Mold with rectangle or square shapes and flat bottom
- Small Flower Mold
- Mica Powder in multiple colors
- White or Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base
- Essential Oil (optional – can make the soap without scent)
- Wavy Soap Cutter (optional but makes the edges pretty)
You can grab everything you need here:
You’ll need a basic soap mold – you can use any shape you like as long as one side is flat. You’ll need it flat so that your flowers can stick to the soap. I don’t think they will stick very well if the surface is uneven.
You’ll also need a little flower mold for the pretty flowers.
You’ll need some white or clear melt and pour soap base. The white and clear base allows the color on the flowers to pop and stand out. I used this white goat’s milk soap base:
You’ll need mica powder for the colored flowers. I used blue, pink, yellow, purple, green. You can get individual colors, but it’s usually more economical to get a set like this one:
Essential Oil for Scent – optional but feel free to add a few drops of your favorite scent. I used Lavender essential oil.

Once you have all the supplies ready, you can dive into making your DIY floral soap bars.
I used a wavy soap cutter to get the pretty edges on the soaps. Optional, but makes a big difference in the overall look of the finished soaps.

Note: Please be sure to use pure essential oil and not fragrance oil which is highly toxic, especially when using it on your skin.
Step-by-Step Guide for How To Make Floral Soap Bars
Make The Flowers
The first step is to make the decorative colored flowers.
You’ll need the small flower mold, your colored mica powder, and a small amount of the soap base.

First, cut all of the soap base into small cubes so that it melts evenly.
For the flowers, we’ll only be using a little bit. Save the rest for the bars.
Tip: You’ll need a bowl for each color!
If you want to make multiple colored flowers, you’ll need multiple bowls so that you can color each bowl separately. Repeat the process below for each color.
Place a small amount into a double boiler on the stove, or a microwave safe container. Melt the base slowly.
If using the microwave, melt in 15 second increments, stirring in between.
Once it’s melted, add the mica powder in small amounts until you get the color you want. Work quickly so your base doesn’t solidify.

Once you are happy with the color, pour the mixture into the flower mold.

Allow the flower soaps to fully set before removing them from the molds.

Make The Flowers for DIY Floral Soap Bars
Now, repeat the process for each color that you would like.
Make the Soap Bars
Now, we’re going to make the soap bars. At this time, go ahead and melt the rest of the soap base.
Let it cool slightly, and then stir in your essential oils. You can leave essential oils out if you don’t want to use them.

Note: Use any essential oil you like (or leave them out).
Some essential oil ideas that I love are:
- a combo of Vanilla and Lavender
- any citrus like wild orange or lemon
- peppermint
- herbs such as sage and rosemary.
Now, pour the melted soap mixture into your soap mold.

Let it sit for about 30 seconds so it slightly thickens. You want it just thick enough so that when you place the flowers on it, they don’t sink.
Adding Floral Elements To The Soap Bars
Gently place the flower soaps on top, pressing them in slightly. Continue adding flowers until the mold is filled.

Cooling and Unmolding
Allow the soap to fully harden at room temperature before removing from the mold. I like to let it cool overnight.
Once hardened, gently peel the soap out of the mold.
Presentation
I like to cut the edges with a wavy soap cutter to get a pretty look.

If you are gifting your DIY floral soap bars, you could wrap them in some unbleached parchment paper and tie it gently with some twine for a rustic look.
