Let’s talk about why these three ingredients (Oatmeal, Honey and Lavender essential oil) are so beneficial for your skin.
Benefits of Oatmeal for skin
Oatmeal is a natural exfoliant that can gently remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and promote a smoother complexion.
Some of the benefits oatmeal provides are:
- Gentle exfoliation
- Removes dead skin cells
- Unclogs pores
- Helps in reducing acne
- Moisturizes and nourishes the skin
- Soothes irritation and inflammation
- Balances pH levels of the skin
- Improves skin texture and appearance
- Suitable for all skin types
I definitely recommend using organic oats if possible because oats are known to be one of the worst offenders when it comes to pesticide use. That’s something your skin definitely won’t benefit from. Fortunately, these days it’s easy to find. Most grocery stores carry organic oats or you can order them. I have used this brand.
Benefits of Honey for Skin
Honey can provide moisture, exfoliation, and antioxidant benefits for the skin.
Some of the benefits of using honey in a skin scrub include:
- Moisturizes and hydrates the skin
- Helps exfoliate dead skin cells
- Contains antioxidants that can help fight against free radicals
- Has antimicrobial properties that can inhibit the growth of bacteria on the skin
- Can improve the overall texture and tone of the skin
- May reduce inflammation and soothe irritated skin
- Can promote a natural glow and radiant complexion
- Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin
- Can be easily combined with other natural ingredients for additional skincare benefits
You’ll want to be sure you are using a high quality, raw honey. I highly recommend getting a locally made honey from your local farmer’s market if possible. These are generally the highest quality and haven’t been overly processed so they still have all of the beneficial “things” left in . If you can’t make it to your farmer’s market, this is a really good raw honey that I recommend.

How to Make DIY Exfoliating Oatmeal Scrub
This is a very simple scrub to make and only takes a few minutes.
First, you’ll want to pulse your organic oats in a blender until they are finely ground.
Then, slowly add the water and oil while continuing to pulse your blender. Do this until you have a paste. You may need to add adjust your measurements until you get a good paste texture. Add more oats or oil/water as needed.
Last, add your honey and essential oil, and pulse once or twice to combine.
Store your scrub in a glass jar such as a mason jar or repurpose a jar.
To use your scrub, wet your face, arms, legs or body part that you want to use your scrub on. Add a small amount to your hand or a washcloth and gently massage into your skin.
Rinse well when done, and follow with your favorite moisturizer. I recommend this luxurious homemade whipped body butter or this DIY Oatmeal Body Butter.
