Why This Zit Zapper is Perfect for Your Skin
This DIY Zit Zapper is more than just a spot treatment—it’s a skin savior. It’s simple, natural, and easy to use. Let me explain why it’s such a great choice for your skincare routine.
Fights Breakouts at the Source
The star ingredient in this recipe is tea tree essential oil, a powerful natural antibacterial agent. It penetrates deep into your pores to fight acne-causing bacteria, reducing the size and redness of blemishes. Unlike harsh chemical treatments, tea tree oil works without stripping your skin of its natural moisture, making it ideal for all skin types—even sensitive skin.
Calms and Soothes Your Skin
Dealing with acne often comes with the added annoyance of redness and irritation. That’s where coconut oil comes in. This soothing ingredient not only calms inflamed skin but also provides a protective layer to lock in hydration. It ensures that while your blemishes heal, your skin stays soft, smooth, and nourished.
Safe and Natural for Sensitive Skin
This balm is free of harsh chemicals. It’s made from natural ingredients that care for your skin gently. You don’t have to worry about irritation or side effects. It’s a kinder, safer choice for treating acne.

You don’t need fancy equipment or rare ingredients to make this Zit Zapper. With just four simple items, you can whip it up in minutes. It’s a quick solution you can trust, and the process itself is satisfying.

Ingredients and SuppliesYou’ll Need for Your Zit Zapper
This recipe makes around 3 ½ ounces and uses just a handful of natural ingredients:
- ¼ cup coconut oil
- ½ tablespoon beeswax
- 10 drops tea tree essential oil
- Lip balm containers
Now, let’s discover the magic behind the ingredients:
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is my go-to base for any DIY skincare recipe. It’s deeply hydrating, non-comedogenic, and loaded with antimicrobial properties, making it perfect for soothing irritated skin and reducing acne. Plus, I love how it melts effortlessly into the skin, leaving it soft and smooth.
This is my favorite coconut oil that I use for all my DIY projects.
Beeswax
Beeswax is a game-changer for creating the perfect consistency. It gives the formula a firmer texture, making it easy to store and use. If you live in a warm climate, beeswax is essential to ensure your Zit Zapper doesn’t melt. In cooler climates, you can skip the beeswax since coconut oil will naturally stay solid. This flexibility makes the recipe adaptable no matter where you live!
This is my favorite beeswax that I use for all my DIY projects:
Tea Tree Essential Oil
This is the star of the show! Tea tree oil is one of my favorite ingredients for tackling acne. It’s antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and highly effective at reducing blemishes without being harsh on the skin. Just a few drops make a big difference in this recipe.
You can also customize the scent by adding essential oils like lavender or chamomile. They not only smell amazing but also bring soothing and calming benefits to the formula.
Lip Balm Containers
I used these natural paperboard lip balm tubes instead of plastic tubes. I really like them! I also used them in my DIY Tallow Balm stick.
Step-by-Step Guide to Making Your DIY Zit Zapper
Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, it’s time to create your Zit Zapper. Follow these simple steps:
Step 1. Melt the Ingredients
Combine the coconut oil and beeswax in a double boiler. Heat the mixture gently, stirring occasionally, until everything has melted together.
You can do this with a glass measuring cup in the microwave if you don’t have a double boiler. Microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between until the mixture is melted.
Step 2. Add the Essential Oils
Remove the mixture from heat and allow it to cool slightly (you don’t want to add essential oils to hot liquid). Stir in 10 drops of tea tree essential oil, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.
Step 3. Pour and Set
Carefully pour the mixture into your lip balm containers. A small funnel like this one may help.
Let them sit at room temperature for about 2 hours, or until completely solidified.
Once the balm has set, store your Zit Zapper in a cool, dry place to maintain its consistency. Proper storage ensures it stays firm and ready to use whenever you need it.
How to Use Your Zit Zapper
- Rub a small amount of the balm on your clean finger.
- Apply directly to blemishes, rubbing it in gently.
- Let it sit overnight for the best results.
That’s it! This simple recipe makes around 3 ½ ounces of Zit Zapper. It’s a perfect addition to your skincare routine and makes a thoughtful, natural gift for friends or family who love DIY remedies. Enjoy making it and seeing the difference it brings to your skin!
