4 Ways to Sleep Better with Essential Oils
4 Ways to Sleep Better With Essential Oils
Essential oils really do work, and can be a game changer!! They have made such a huge difference for me. I’m someone who has struggled to sleep most of my life. Since finding essential oils, I rarely have sleepless nights. Here are 4 ways to sleep better with essential oils. Create a routine with these, use them consistently, and you’ll be sleeping better every night so that you can function during the day.
My secret? doTERRA Serenity Complex Capsules, Lavender and Vetiver essential oils. And a few other essentials oils that I rotate through for variety, but I find myself continually coming back to those two.
1) Serenity Natural Sleep Aid Capsules
doTERRA recently introduced the Serenity Restful Complex Capsules and updated their already awesome Serenity essential oil blend to include Cedarwood and Vetiver. I am in love with both of these products. Especially the capsules!
The doTERRA Serenity softgels are a natural plant based alternative to traditional sleep supplements which help support a restful night’s sleep. I pop 1 or 2 capsules about 30 minutes before bedtime. My mind and body are relaxed and I fall asleep much more easily.
It’s important to know that these are not the oil in a capsule form. These have entirely different ingredients.
2) Lavender Linen Sleep Spray
This Lavender linen spray is very popular in my home. I love to spray my sheets, pillows, and comforter before I get into bed. The aroma goes straight to my brain and helps me relax. My children also LOVE this spray and each have their very own spray bottle on their nightstands that they use every night.
This spray is super easy to make (as are all variety of sprays!)
First, take an empty 2 oz spray bottle (again, Amazon is your friend for these), and add about 15 drops of your preferred essential oil. Lavender or Serenity are great choices for bedtime.
Then, top off the bottle with distilled water. Tap water will do in a pinch. You could also use witch hazel or vodka instead of water as the essential oil will bind to these liquids. We all know the saying “oil and water don’t mix”. However, I have found the water to work just fine. I don’t really want these other substances on my sheets, and water is significantly cheaper and is readily available.
I just give the bottle a gentle shake before spraying and the water works as an excellent vehicle for getting the spray out on my my sheets as a gentle mist.
Aaaaahhhh. Smells wonderful, and is so relaxing!

3) Sleep Rollerball Blend
This is the roller that I originally was introduced to, and still use to this day. Before I was introduced to this, I never knew I had an option other than melatonin (a synthetic hormone!! yikes), or prescription sleep pills. This has literally been life changing! I no longer take melatonin every night.
First, add the following drops of essential oil to an empty 10ml roller. (You can get rollers for about $1 each on Amazon). Click here for a link to some that I like
Second, fill the roller to the top with fractionated coconut oil, or carrier oil of your choice (jojoba, grapeseed, almond, avocado, olive, etc). Fractionated coconut oil is a little more processed than regular virgin cooking coconut oil and will never solidify. Because solid coconut oil wouldn’t work so well in a roller. I use this one from Amazon.
Lastly, pop the roller in, and gently shake it to mix the contents.
When you go to bed, apply it to your wrists, neck, and bottoms of feet. The oils will get in your system within a few minutes and start working their magic.

4) Sleep Better with a Diffuser
If you don’t have a diffuser, you are missing out, my friend. I started with one diffuser for my whole house. I now have at least one in every room in my home. My husband and I each have our own on our respective side of the bed.
My favorite essential oil in the diffuser at bedtime is Breathe Respiratory Blend and Lavender combo. It opens up the airways and is very calming. Both are very calming and breathe opens up the airways.
Another favorite of mine that is super relaxing is a few drops each of Petitgrain and Ylang Ylang.
Other calming oils you could try include: Serenity Restful blend which is made specifically for bedtime and contains ALL the relaxing oils: Bergamot, Roman Chamomile, Cedarwood, or Balance blend.
Diffusers are wonderful in the kids rooms as well. Because if you have kids, you are all too familiar with the bedtime struggle. Essential Oils can be a huge help getting them to wind down and relax. Some popular essential oil choices for kids are Lavender, Roman Chamomile, and Serenity.
Choose your essential oils carefully – most are not what they seem.
Why doTERRA and not something from Amazon or Walmart?
Did you know that most essential oils at drugstores are synthetic fragrance only? And did you know that most oils on Amazon, even doTERRA, are adulterated (tampered with and diluted with coconut oil), and can’t be trusted?
I choose to use doTERRA essential oils. They are the purest, highest quality and only brand I trust to use for my family. Find out Why I LOVE doTERRA here. It’s not only just for their fabulous essential oils. It’s for their sustainability and the way they work hand in hand with the farmers and communities who grow the plants.
