Health Benefits of Beard Oil
When most men start to grow a beard, within a matter of days, even the best efforts to grow a beard can result in a dry, itchy, and disheveled mess, including beard dandruff.
While it may seem like it’s the hair, the root cause of these issues is actually the underlying skin and its sebaceous glands.
Sebaceous glands are microscopic glands located at the root of every hair follicle. Their primary function is to secrete an oily and waxy substance called sebum that keeps skin and hair moisturized.
While the hair follicle progressively becomes longer, the sebaceous glands do not grow nor do they have a means to increase production of sebum.
The longer the beard becomes, the greater the discomfort and risk for dry and unhealthy skin and hair.
Beard oil is a simple solution to the discomforts of longer beards. They promote healthy hair growth, prevent skin irritation.
Moisturizes and Hydrates: Beard oil is like a drink of water for your facial hair. It contains essential oils that moisturize both the beard hair and the underlying skin. This helps to prevent dryness, flakiness, and itchiness that can often occur when you’re growing out your beard.
Promotes Healthy Growth: A well-moisturized beard is more likely to grow healthy and strong. Beard oil nourishes the hair follicles, ensuring that your beard grows evenly and looks its best. It can also reduce split ends and breakage, allowing your beard to reach its full potential.
Prevents Beardruff: Just like your scalp can get dandruff, your beard can suffer from “beardruff.” This is usually caused by dry skin beneath your beard, which flakes off as dandruff. Beard oil helps to combat this issue by keeping the skin beneath your beard hydrated.
Softens Coarse Hair: If you’ve ever had a beard, you know that beard hair can be quite coarse. Beard oil contains ingredients like argan oil, jojoba oil, and almond oil, which work to soften and tame unruly facial hair. This makes your beard more manageable and comfortable.
Reduces Itchiness: The early stages of beard growth can be notoriously itchy. Beard oil can soothe this discomfort by moisturizing the skin and hair, reducing the urge to scratch and potentially damage your beard.
Enhances Shine: Want your beard to look healthy and lustrous? Beard oil can help with that too. It gives your facial hair a natural shine, making it look well-groomed and attractive.
Tames Flyaways: Flyaway hairs can make your beard look untidy. Beard oil contains ingredients that help to control these rogue strands, giving your beard a neater appearance.
Prevents Acne and Breakouts: When you’re growing a beard, the hair follicles can sometimes get clogged with dirt and dead skin cells, leading to acne and breakouts. Beard oil can help to prevent this by keeping the skin beneath your beard clean and moisturized.
Aromatherapy Benefits: Many beard oils come in a variety of scents, from earthy and woody to citrusy and fresh. These scents can have a calming and mood-boosting effect, thanks to the essential oils they contain. So, applying beard oil can be a little self-care ritual to start or end your day.
Improves Appearance: Ultimately, beard oil makes your beard look better. It adds a healthy sheen, makes it more manageable, and helps it maintain its shape. This not only enhances your appearance but also boosts your self-confidence.
Customizable: Beard oils come in various formulations and scents, allowing you to choose one that suits your skin type and personal preferences. Whether you have sensitive skin or want a particular fragrance, there’s likely a beard oil that’s perfect for you.
Easy to Use: Applying beard oil is a breeze. You simply need to put a few drops in your palm, rub your hands together to distribute it evenly, and then massage it into your beard and the skin beneath. It’s a quick and easy addition to your grooming routine.
Long-Term Benefits: Using beard oil regularly doesn’t just provide short-term benefits. It can also contribute to the long-term health and appearance of your beard. By keeping your beard and skin well-nourished, you’re setting the stage for a beard that looks great for years to come.
Boosts Confidence: When your beard looks and feels its best, you’re likely to feel more confident. Confidence can have a positive impact on various aspects of your life, from personal relationships to professional success.
Some beard oils may be fortified with vitamins or fragrances, but none of that is necessary. A simple natural beard oil is composed of two key ingredients: a single carrier oil and an essential oil (or a blend of them). The essential oils provide all the fragrance that’s needed.
A few washes a week with your favorite shampoo and some extra attention with your homemade beard oil is all it takes to grow and maintain a healthy looking and feeling beard.
