08) Peppermint and the Body
Lesson 8
There are many ways to use Peppermint Essential Oil to support your body’s overall health and wellness. Let’s look at a few.
Elevated Body Temperature
When experiencing an elevated body temperature, apply one drop topically on both big toes and down the spine to promote a cooling sensation and overall lower body temperature. This is a perfect way to support kiddos who are feeling feverish. You can watch their temperature drop!
Upset Stomach, Nausea, constipation
If you experience the occasional stomach upset, nausea, motion sickness, or constipation, apply Peppermint to your abdomen or the bottoms of your feet. You can also take two drops internally in a capsule or add a drop to 4 oz. of water and drink. If you're brave enough, just put a drop or two under your tongue. It's like an Altoid!
Head
When experiencing head tensions or feel like your head is pounding, put a drop on your fingertips, rub them together, then massage into temples and back of neck to soothe tension. You might want to consider diluting the drops with a bit of coconut oil. Everyone is different, so you'll need to experiment to find what works for you. Some people will find Peppermint to be very tingly when applied topically. Others won't mind the sensation at all.
Pollen
During times of year when pollen counts are high, (a.k.a. the very vague and FDA safe term, seasonal threats), take equal parts Peppermint, Lemon, and Lavender internally via a veggie capsule, or apply topically. I like to make a roller with 10 drops each, the top it off with carrier oil. My son and husband both rely on this. No drowsy Benadryl for us!
Working Out/Sore Muscles & Joints
After working out, apply Peppermint topically to support healthy joints and soothe muscle fatigue.
Food Cravings
When experiencing food cravings, inhale or apply topically under the nose, before or between meals to help feel full and prevent overeating.
For Pregnant or Nursing mamas
If you are pregnant or nursing, be aware that Peppermint MAY decrease milk supply. This can actually be beneficial when ready to wean your baby off of nursing. Apply Peppermint Topically or take internally in a veggie capsule until you notice a decrease.
Peppermint can also be used to support open airways and soothe scratchy throats.
